Hue Boy (A story set in a Caribbean Village)
This heart warming story set in a Caribbean Village written by Rita Phillips Mitchell has been specially adapted to be performed on Saturday 13th December 2008 by Full Cirlce.  Rita Phillips Mitchell is a Black British writer and winner of the Smarties Book Awards.  There will be supporting acts from Ace Percussions and The Kumba Young People Dancers.  See flyer for further details.

Windrush
Many events running up until December 2008 celebrating the cultural legacies of Black people.  There is a commemorative showcase programme which marks the 60 sixtieth anniversary of the arrival of migrants from the Caribbean in June 1948 on the SS Empire Windrush.  All elements from the above events will be brought together in this evening of cultural celebration.

BME Newspaper Competition
The Black History Month Newspaper Writing Competition is an ideal opportunity for children and young people to develop their research and writing skills.  The children and young people can choose any Black person that has inspired them. 
The newspaper entry can be done in any format.  You can enter as an individual or schools can put forward a number of entries.
Articles should be no more than 300 words.
Closing date: November 30th 2008

Refugee Week

Refugee Week celebrates the contribution of refugees to the UK through arts, cultural and education events.

In Bristol there will be a range of activities from the 12th - 22nd June, including music, dance, football, film, poetry, debate, discussion.

Venues include: The Netham, Barton Hill, Fishponds, St. Paul's.  All welcome, many events are free.

Journey to Safety Giant Board Game:

A free activity for Key Stage 2 and 3 pupils to highlight difficulties faced by refugees during their journey to safety.

Run by EMAS Induction and Assessment Team (EIAT) at the Woodward Community Resource Centre from 16th - 20th June.

Black Families Education Support Group
Black Families Education Support Group provides education activities for young people aged 5 - 16 who represent minority ethnic groups in Bath and North East Somerset.  Activities include creative and performing arts projects, short film workshops, and sports and multimedia activities.  The group also organise educational trips and career visits.

 Voice Minority Supplementary School
Voice Minority Supplementary School opened in October 2007 and aims to positively impact on educational achievement, motivation and aspirations of Black and Minority Ethnic young people in the Bath and North East Somerset area.  The service is for 13 - 16 year old BME young people.  The main session takes place on Saturdays from 11 - 1 p.m., term time only, at Invention Studios, Bath.
