National Events

 National events relevant to ethnic minority issues.

Holocaust Memorial Day - 27th January 2008

The liberation of the extermination and concentration camps presents one of the greatest opportunities to show our respect for the survivors of Nazi persecution and mass murder, and to listen to what they can tell us about the best and the worst of human behaviour.

Black History Month - October

Every year Black History Month is celebrated in the UK and the USA. Sometimes referred to as African or Afrikan History Month, originally a project in the USA to mark the contribution of African Americans and other Black people. Now sometimes widened to include the contributions of other ethnic minorities in UK and across the world. Many sites listed below are recommended not only for Black History Month but for use throughout the year to include contributions of Black people in History curriculum and other subjects.

One world week will be held on 19th – 26th October 2008. One World Week is an annual opportunity to join a worldwide movement of people taking action for justice locally and globally.

Human Rights Day - 10th December


Event promoting human rights and human rights education.

Religious Festivals

Information about major religious festival is available online. You can search using terms Religious Calendars or Religious Festivals. Search the BBC website in Religion section for information on major religious festivals.
