Launch of Ethnic Minority Achievement Network

The Ethnic Minority
Achievement Network will be launched on 9th December, 2008 from 9.00
a.m. - 4.00 p.m. at Woodward Community Resource Centre. The
audience for this training is all phase. Headteachers, Inclusion
Leaders, EMAG coordinators and Head of Years are invited to attend.

EMAT:
NEAP Putting it into practice
The New Arrivals Excellence
Programme (NEAP) was launched in 2007 to support the integration and
inclusion of newly arrived pupils who are new to English. This
one-day event will provide training for schools in implementing the NEAP
materials and guidance, and will develop the expertise and confidence of
teachers in supporting newly arrived pupils who are beginners in
learning English as an additional language. The day will include
workshops on :
- Assessment (both
primary and secondary)
- Teaching and learning
(both primary and secondary)
- Developing a
whole-school approach (primary)
- Briefing for senior
leadership (secondary)

Ensuring
the Attainment of Black Pupils
This one-day conference is
aimed at all schools that are striving to raise the achievement of Black
and minority ethnic children, with particular focus on African Caribbean
and Somali children. It will be underpinned by the National
Strategies Ensuring the Attainment of Black Pupils initiative which is
intended to support senior leaders in raising the achievement of Black
pupils through self-evaluation and targeted action, closely integrated
with other aspects of whole-school improvement.
The event is aimed at
headteachers, inclusion leaders, middle managers, lead teachers and
Ethnic Minority Achievement staff in all school.

EMAT
Hope IV Conference
Our fourth Ethnic
Minority Achievement Team HOPE conference will continue to explore how
we can support all Black and minority ethnic (BME) pupils so that they
can be outstanding educationally. The day will have a strong
practical emphasis this year, with a particular focus on the core
curriculum and especially the teaching and learning of English and
mathematics as key drivers for raising BME attainment. The strands
of the day will be:
- Raising BME
achievement in mathematics
- Raising BME
achievement in literacy and English
- Diversifying the
curriculum, including celebrating BME contributions to local,
national and world development
The day is aimed at
headteachers, managers, inclusion leaders in all schools, together with
members of community groups.

Shared
Futures
The training day will focus
on promoting the integration of refugee children and young people and
other international new arrivals. This event for teachers and
other practitioners working with children in school settings in Bristol
will:
- introduce the SHARED
Futures DVD and training resources
- promote the
integration of refugee children and young people and other
international new arrivals new arrivals
- support schools and
youth settings to promote community cohesion
- provide strategies for
enhancing the welcome of new arrivals and creating safer school and
community environments
- provide opportunities
to share good practice in Bristol.
The SHARED Futures DVD
showcases effective practice on welcoming and the inclusion of refugee
and other international new arrivals from across the UK, including
schools in Bristol.
A FREE copy of the SHARED
Futures resource pack and DVD will be available for each setting
represented.
